UNCOMPROMISING LEADERSHIPS

"Of all of the participants I personally find Mlan Kućan [president of Slovenai] and Kiro Gligorov [president of Croatia] most appealing. For my taste they are two peple who are democrats. On the other side stand two men who will probably play a decisive role—Tudjman and Milošević. . . Both in my opnion are people who are insufficiently flexible [and] . . . in the business of negotiating, is usually a defect . . . some people are simply incapable of compromise. . . . it seems to me that if Serbia and Croatia were headed by people such as Gligorov and Kućan, Yugoslavia would find easier to extricate itself."
